Dragon Con Art Show Buyer and Attendee Orientation

We would like to cordially invite you to be a part of the Dragon Con 2015 Art Show. The Art Show is a very large and diverse event. It is a very active and exciting function. Art is all about capturing new ideas in one form or another. It's about doing something no one has ever done before. One of our goals is to make every attendee that visits the Art Show say "WOW, I never thought of that before!"

Here's another point. Art is the beginning of many of the creations you as a sci-fi, fantasy, horror, surreal and astronomical fan have come to love and cherish over the years. Many of the game developers, writers, movie directors and other creators were in one way or another inspired by the type of artwork we have in our Art Show. Your active participation in the Art Show helps to start a new wave of creativity for future works. Now let's look at what's inside the Dragon Con Art Show.

The Art Gallery - In the main Art Show exhibition room, located in the Grand Hall West, Exhibition Level of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, the majority of the space is used by the art Gallery. It consists of all the exhibit space for the 2-D and 3-D artwork - hanging, on tables and freestanding throughout the room. There is also the occasional themed exhibit, such as the diorama or puppet displays at past Shows. Please don't feel rushed. Take the time to look at each piece. All artwork will have a bid sheet with prices and places to write bids attached to it. Most of the artwork in the Gallery is available for immediate quick sale purchase or for Silent Auction bids during posted hours of operation. The only exception for some artwork not available for purchase are items marked "NFS" or "Not For Sale" on the bid sheet attached to that artwork.

The Print Shop - Adjacent to the art Gallery is the Print Shop featuring prints from artists in the Show, some of which are limited editions. These items are available at the marked prices for immediate purchase.

The Artists' Bazaar - The Artists' Bazaar is a special area for artists to present their artwork and merchandise related to their artwork directly to the public. The Bazaar is located in the Art Show exhibition room along the outer walls and a specific artist can be located using one of the "YOU ARE HERE" floor maps located throughout the Art Show or included with the 2015 Dragon Con App available to download for free with most smart phones. The pieces range from special limited edition prints to unusual and exotic original jewelry to hand-thrown pots and everything in between. The artists themselves will present these and may even personalize these items for you. The Artists' Bazaar is located in the Grand Hall West, Exhibition Level of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Art Show Programming - Do you want to learn how artists make these wonderful creations? How about watching artists in drawing contests? Or, if you are an artist, would you like to learn many tips and tricks to help improve and market your artwork? Then lucky for you that the Art Show has a huge variety of programming covering many topics of interest for both the attendee and the artist alike (see programming schedule for panel topics and exact times)! Art Show programming is located in the Hannover Hall, a few doors down from the Art Show room in the Grand Hall West.

The Art Show Art Auctions - So, you found a piece of artwork that you really must take home. But when you went to buy it, someone had already put a bid on it. Now what? From the time the Art Show opens on Friday 1 pm until Sunday 6 pm, you can write bids in whole dollar amounts on the bid sheets attached to any of the artwork in the Art Show exhibit space. This includes any of the 2-D and 3-D artwork - hanging, on tables and freestanding throughout the room that has a bid sheet attached to it. This period is known as the Silent Auction. If any item gets 5 bids during the Silent Auction, it will go to the Voice Auction on Monday (see programming schedule for exact time and location). The Voice Auction operates like a traditional auction. Now you must go to the Voice Auction and win that piece at all costs! The Voice Auction isn't just for the buyers but it's also great entertainment - from the auctioneers building up the pace of the bids, to the buyers who can battle it out in an exhaustive contest of pocket books.

Art Show Buyer Rules

  1. ONLY BID MONITORS CAN REMOVE BID SHEETS AND PUT THEM BACK. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO MATTER WHAT!
  2. Bidder numbers are required to write a bid on a Bid Sheet in order to buy art in any of the art auctions. These free bidder numbers are available at the Bidder Registration desk located at Art Show Information or the Cashiers desk. This is your personal Art Show Id. You will get a receipt when you get your bid number. This receipt validates the bid number. Your badge number IS NOT your bidder number.
  3. You must be 18 years of age to obtain a bid number.
  4. Bidding Hours of the Silent Auction: From the time the Art Show opens on Friday 1:00 p.m. until Sunday 6:00 p.m., you can write bids on the bid sheets attached to art pieces in the art Gallery. This time is known as the Silent Auction. If any item gets 5 bids during the Silent Auction it will go to the Voice Auction on Monday (see programming schedule for exact time and location). The Voice Auction operates like a traditional auction. Anyone with a bid number can bid in both the Silent and Voice Auctions.
  5. Bidding: All artwork in the art Gallery eligible for sale in the auction will have a Bid Sheet attached. Included on this sheet is the following:
  6. When you bid on an item, PRINT your name, bidder number, and bid in whole dollar amounts on the first space available on that item's Bid Sheet.
  7. After 6 pm on Sunday if the piece does not have 5 bids, then the person with the highest bid is obligated to buy the piece at that price. Pieces that receive 5 bids will go to the Voice Auction on Monday (see programming schedule for exact time and location). If you have written a bid during the Silent Auction or are interested in participating in the Voice Auction, please check back with the Art Show. Art will not be removed from its displayed location unless it has been sent to the Voice Auction or purchased by the winning bidder. So, if you've bid on a piece, you can check to see if you've won it by returning to the location where you bid on it.
  8. Please DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO HONOR YOUR BID! Your written bid is the same as a contract agreeing to buy that item at that price. MARKED OUT BIDS ARE STILL BINDING!
  9. Print shop items are priced as marked and are available for immediate purchase.
  10. Packages and cameras not in cases will be sealed in a bag by security while you view the art. Any bags with the seal broken will be inspected by security.
  11. No food, open containers, smoking (including e-cigs or personal vaporizers) or photography/video allowed in the Art Show without special permission from the Art Show Directors.
  12. If you want your purchased art Gallery artwork shipped, you must make arrangements either with the attending artist, the hotel you are staying at, or by some other means (see below for ideas). Dragon Con will NOT ship any artwork for you.
  13. All purchases are subject to Georgia State Sales Tax to be paid by the purchaser.
  14. The Dragon Con Art Show does not accept personal checks for payment of any artwork at the Show. We accept only credit cards, debit cards or cash. Please plan accordingly.
  15. Attention Parents and Guardians: It is the policy of the Dragon Con Art Show to permit artistic nudity as subject matter. If you have minor(s) with you, we recommend that you walk through the Show first to see if any of the artwork needs to be avoided during their visit.
